COURSE DESCRIPTION - Bio 107 is a 4 credit hour, lab based introductory science course. It can be used as a general education life science elective as one of the two lab based courses a student needs to graduate from Parkland with an A.S. or A.A. degree. The course is designed to introduce students to the basic principles and concepts of evolution, including such things as it's historical development (just who was Darwin anyway?), evidences (is evolution a fact?), the fossil record (are there really "transition" organisms in the fossil record?), some genetics (this is the part Darwin didn't know about), natural selection ( the thing that makes evolution work), and some recent controversies (can you be religious and still accept evolution?) There are no prerequisites for this course. Science and non science majors are welcome.
TRANSFERABILITY- Bio 107 will transfer to virtually all two and four year colleges in the state of Illinois by virtue of its approval as an IAI course (IAI L1 907L). It should also transfer to most colleges and universities outside of Illinois but you should check with the institution you plan to attend to make sure.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE ?
Non-science majors can take it to fulfill a general education requirement.
Science majors can take it to broaden their science knowledge.
or in reality.......
Anyone can take it. All you need is the interest and desire to learn about evolution.
FORMAT - The course is offered in two formats:
A traditional classroom version
The topics are the same in both. For an overview of the course content, click here.
